BYD Confirms Discontinuation of Song PLUS as Normal Product Transition — Successor Sea Lion 06 Takes the Stage

According to a report from IT Home on October 11, recent online rumors suggesting that the BYD Song PLUS is about to be discontinued have drawn wide attention. In response, a BYD representative told 21st Century Business Herald that the Sea Lion 06 is indeed the successor to the Song PLUS, clarifying that “the discontinuation of Song PLUS is part of a normal product transition.”

This marks the gradual phase-out of one of China’s most popular SUVs — the Song PLUS, which achieved an impressive sales record of 1.57 million units. With this shift, BYD’s Ocean Network lineup — themed around “marine life + digital naming” — is now nearing completion of its full ecosystem.

A Legacy Model That Defined a Segment

Launched in 2021, the Song PLUS played a crucial role in filling out BYD’s early Ocean Network lineup. By May 2025, the Ocean Network’s cumulative sales had reached 4.85 million units, with the Song PLUS alone contributing over 1.57 million global sales — a testament to its enduring popularity as a “national SUV.”

The Successor: Sea Lion 06 — A Fusion of Design, Tech, and Performance

The BYD Sea Lion 06, available in both pure electric and plug-in hybrid variants, officially debuted in July this year.

Plug-in Hybrid (DM-i) models are priced between ¥139,800 and ¥156,800, offered in:

  • 121 Navigator Edition — ¥139,800
  • 170 Navigator Pro Edition — ¥146,800
  • 170 Navigator Plus Edition — ¥156,800

Pure Electric (EV) models range from ¥143,800 to ¥163,800, including:

  • 520 Navigator Edition — ¥143,800
  • 605 Navigator Pro Edition — ¥153,800
  • 605 Navigator Plus Edition — ¥163,800

Premium Build and Intelligent Features

The Sea Lion 06 shares a unified design language across both powertrains, with dimensions of 4810 x 1920 x 1675 mm and a 2820 mm wheelbase. Inside, it offers two interior color schemes, a 15.6-inch floating central display, electronic gear selector, and a front-mounted digital instrument panel. The vehicle features BYD’s latest DiLink 100 Smart Cockpit (Advanced Edition).

Comfort features include ventilated and heated front seats, an expansive 1.73㎡ panoramic roof, and Dynaudio premium sound system — a first in its class. Suspension configurations vary: front MacPherson and rear four-link setup for the DM-i version, and rear five-link suspension for the EV variant, both equipped with BYD’s Cloud Chassis -C intelligent damping control system.

Next-Generation Power and Efficiency

The Sea Lion 06 DM-i introduces BYD’s fifth-generation hybrid technology, combining a 1.5L engine with a 160kW electric motor, integrated through a world-first “seven-in-one” power domain controller, delivering a combined range of up to 1,670 km.

Meanwhile, the Sea Lion 06 EV runs on an 800V high-voltage platform with a 12-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, achieving an energy efficiency of 12.5 kWh/100 km and supporting fast charging up to 237 kW.

With the Song PLUS gracefully bowing out, the arrival of the Sea Lion 06 signals BYD’s continued evolution toward smarter, cleaner, and more refined mobility — marking a new era in the Ocean Network family.
