TechFast News, October 12 — According to the latest reports, the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9500 is expected to be priced between $180 and $200, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Ultra reportedly costs around $280 per unit. This means the Dimensity 9500 could be over 55% cheaper than its Snapdragon counterpart.

These figures represent estimated manufacturing costs, and the final pricing may vary depending on MediaTek’s agreements with partners, purchase volumes, regional factors, and exclusive deals.

Despite sharing the same advanced 3nm manufacturing process, the Dimensity 9500 achieves significant cost savings mainly because it relies on ARM’s standard CPU and GPU architecture, rather than developing custom cores. In contrast, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Ultra features its in-house Oryon cores, which drive up R&D and production costs.

However, MediaTek’s decision to stick with ARM designs is a double-edged sword. While it reduces costs, it may also limit performance and power efficiency advantages compared to Qualcomm’s custom architecture — even when both chips are built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process.

It’s worth noting that in Qualcomm’s earlier legal dispute with ARM, the company justified its $1.4 billion acquisition of Nuvia as a strategic move to strengthen competitiveness against Apple by developing high-performance custom cores.

In short, the Dimensity 9500’s pricing advantage is clear — but whether it can match the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Ultra’s performance remains to be seen.
