According to Yaron Weitzman of The Ringer, Westbrook reportedly grew frustrated with what he saw as LeBron’s “fake” or “insincere” actions during their time as teammates. The journalist listed several examples — though each with questionable evidence.

First, Weitzman wrote that the on-court chemistry among LeBron, Davis, and Westbrook never clicked. Rumors circulated that LeBron secretly pushed for a trade to bring in Kyrie Irving, which would have required moving Westbrook. Although LeBron denied it publicly, the report suggests he didn’t truly back Russ behind the scenes.

Second, during a Lakers facility visit from actor Will Smith, LeBron and Davis enthusiastically welcomed the star, while LeBron led the conversation and quoted movie lines. Westbrook, unimpressed, reportedly told teammates, “I can’t stand that fake stuff.”

Other points raised included:

Weitzman used these examples to paint LeBron as disingenuous in Westbrook’s eyes — though none of the claims have been independently verified.
