With LeBron James sidelined by injury, the Lakers’ season began under pressure — and despite Luka Dončić’s phenomenal 43 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists, the Warriors’ balanced attack proved too much. Golden State claimed a 119–109 victory, powered by 31 points from Jimmy Butler, 23 from Stephen Curry, 17 from Jonathan Kuminga, and 17 from Buddy Hield — combining for a massive 88 points.

For the Lakers, Austin Reaves contributed 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Deandre Ayton added 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Marcus Smart chipped in 9 points.
The loss marks the Lakers’ 8th defeat in their last 10 season openers — a streak they’ll be desperate to change.

Game Summary:
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, highlighted by Butler’s alley-oop and Curry’s three-pointer, with Dončić keeping pace through aggressive drives. The Warriors ended Q1 up 28–22. In the second, the Lakers stormed back behind Dončić and Rui Hachimura’s back-to-back threes, even taking a brief lead, but Golden State closed the half ahead 55–54 thanks to Butler’s steady scoring.

The third quarter was all Warriors. Kuminga and Butler led an 18–4 run that extended the gap to double digits. Dončić fought to keep the Lakers alive, but the deficit remained 11 entering the fourth. The Lakers cut the lead to 6 late, yet Curry’s clutch deep three with 51 seconds left sealed the win.

Despite Dončić’s brilliance — reminiscent of vintage Kobe-like determination — the Lakers couldn’t overcome the Warriors’ teamwork and depth. Until LeBron returns, the purple and gold will need more players to rise beside Luka if they hope to turn things around.
