Microsoft’s October Update Bug: Remote Desktop Fails to Connect Between Windows 11 Devices

According to IT Home on October 25, tech media outlet Borncity reported that some Windows 11 24H2 users have encountered Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection failures after installing the optional September update KB5065789.

The report explained that the issue isn’t a complete connection breakdown but follows a specific pattern.

Failure Scenario: When a Windows 11 client tries to connect via RDP to another Windows 11 24H2 device that has the problematic update installed, the connection fails.

Successful Scenario: However, when the same RDP connection is initiated from a Windows 10 or Windows Server 2022 device, it works without issues.

From this pattern, it appears the problem lies specifically in “Windows 11-to-Windows 11” connections, suggesting that the recent update may have disrupted certain components of the RDP communication protocol within Windows 11.

In addition, users reported that the cumulative security update KB5066835—rolled out on October 14, 2025—also carries the same RDP issue. This means that even users who skipped the optional preview update are still affected after installing the mandatory October security patch.

So far, Microsoft has not officially acknowledged the problem or released a fix. Based on user testing, the only temporary solution available at the moment is to manually uninstall the update causing the issue.
