Apple’s Beats Wireless Headphones Face Potential Class Action Over “Misleading Voice Call Performance”
Apple’s popular Beats wireless headphones have recently become the focus of a potential class action lawsuit, after consumers alleged that the products’ voice call performance failed to live up to marketing claims. The lawsuit, filed in California this August, accuses Apple’s Beats Fit Pro, Beats Solo Pro, and several other models of delivering poor audio quality during video calls on platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom, making clear communication difficult.
According to the complaint, lead plaintiff Kimberly Feeney purchased a pair of Beats headphones in 2024 but found that during Teams and Zoom calls, the person on the other end often couldn’t hear her clearly. Despite multiple visits to the Apple Store’s Genius Bar for assistance, the issue persisted. Frustrated by the lack of resolution, Feeney decided to initiate a class action on behalf of other affected consumers.
At present, the plaintiff’s legal team is seeking class certification. If approved, customers who purchased Beats Fit Pro, Beats Solo Pro, or similar models after July 9, 2021, could join the case. Apple has not yet issued an official response to the lawsuit.
Caldwell Law’s litigation head Jameson Pasek told CNET that while Apple holds a clear advantage in terms of resources, class action mechanisms can help level the playing field for consumers. Statistically, around 60% to 70% of class certification requests are approved, though only a small fraction proceed to trial and result in major compensation. Most such cases, Pasek noted, end in settlement before reaching a courtroom verdict.
