“Russia-Ukraine Conflict Escalates, Germany Shifts Stance Dramatically, and Trump’s Rare Outburst at Putin”
The international landscape is shifting rapidly. German Chancellor Merz announced that weapons provided to Ukraine will no longer be limited by range, signaling a major change in Germany’s military policy. At the same time, Trump made a rare criticism of Putin, calling him “crazy” and accusing Zelensky of “creating trouble with every word.” Despite Turkey’s efforts to broker prisoner swaps between Russia and Ukraine, the fighting has intensified. Now, the positions of Germany, the US, Russia, and Ukraine are all evolving, and the intertwining of warfare and negotiations may reshape the course of the conflict.

The situation is undergoing dramatic changes. Although Russia and Ukraine began negotiations in Turkey and exchanged prisoners, the fighting has grown even fiercer. On May 26, German Chancellor Merz announced that Western weapons provided to Ukraine will no longer have range restrictions, overturning the cautious stance of the previous Scholz administration and reflecting Germany’s full military support for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Trump openly called Putin “crazy,” accusing him of “killing many people senselessly,” and warning that this conflict will lead to Russia’s decline. Trump also lashed out at Zelensky, saying he “creates trouble with every word.” This rare outburst has boosted morale in the West.
In response to Germany and the West’s policy shift, Russian officials dismissed Trump’s remarks as “emotional outbursts” and reaffirmed that Putin’s focus remains on national security.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict is at a critical stage. Ukrainian forces are struggling, and Germany’s increased military support aims to prevent Ukraine’s collapse. Nevertheless, as fighting intensifies, the bargaining for negotiation leverage is also becoming more intense.
Three key observations:
1️⃣ Trump’s deep frustration is evident—he repeatedly vowed to end the conflict “within 24 hours” if elected, yet nothing has changed.
2️⃣ The battlefield is tilting in Russia’s favor, prompting Germany’s policy shift to prevent a Ukrainian defeat.
3️⃣ The intensifying conflict may be part of an effort to gain more bargaining chips before potential peace talks, reflecting the interplay of war and diplomacy.
