Richie Jen, born and raised in Taiwan, has never forgotten where his roots lie. His father, Ren Wenxiang, was born in Renjiawan, Tulitang, Wulongquan Street, Jiangxia District in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
In April 1949, Ren Wenxiang traveled with his unit through Guangxi into Vietnam before eventually settling in Taiwan. In 1997, Richie returned to Jiangxia, Wuhan for the first time under his father’s guidance to honor his ancestors.
Since then, he has visited his hometown many times and has been deeply involved in local charitable work. From donating funds to build roads to establishing the “Xianqi Electronic Reading Room,” he has contributed meaningfully to the community and brought real benefits to local residents.
Currently busy touring nationwide, Richie’s next concert stop happens to be in his ancestral home—Wuhan. As the performance date approached, he took the chance to return to his village, instantly drawing crowds wherever he went.
With work obligations still running in parallel, he was accompanied by a sizable team. Combined with the warm affection of the villagers, it was no surprise that people gathered around him at every corner.
Richie appeared in a stylish jacket paired with matching trousers, hands casually tucked into his pockets—still effortlessly handsome. His hair, styled upright, made him look even taller and sharper.
During this trip home, his first priority was to go up the mountain to honor his ancestors. Although his father did not return with him, Richie upheld the family tradition, ensuring that the ritual remained the very first thing he did each time he visited.
He vividly remembers the first time he came back for the ancestral ceremony. Villagers surrounded him, and relatives from all branches stepped forward to reconnect. It was a powerful reminder of blood ties—an emotional bond that keeps one connected to their homeland no matter where life leads.
After the ceremony, Richie returned to the old family house where his father once lived. The home, long worn by time, had been lovingly repaired by villagers after they learned it belonged to Richie’s family.
The courtyard is spacious, framed by sturdy stone-walled rooms that embody the charm and strength of the countryside. It is simple yet comforting, a place that warms the heart instantly.
Richie sat at the doorway on a small stool, just like any local villager. In many rural homes, stone stools are placed by the entrance so neighbors can sit together and chat—an everyday warmth unique to village life. Despite his fame, Richie had no trace of celebrity airs. The scene of him quietly sitting at the doorstep looked like a childhood memory brought back to life.
Even after growing up, he cherishes the taste of home. Though he wasn’t raised here, this place represents his roots—the origin of his family’s story. During this visit, he expressed gratitude on behalf of his father to the villagers and took time to reconnect with old friends and relatives. Seeing him relax quietly at the doorstep, one can easily imagine him choosing this place for retirement someday.
His ancestral home, restored by the villagers, remains a traditional single-story residence built with bluish stone bricks—simple yet full of rustic charm. Even the doors and windows carry a nostalgic touch, evoking memories of the past.
Inside, the original clay stove has been preserved. Richie’s father loved the taste of porridge cooked over this stove, so villagers made sure to rebuild it for him. In modern rural homes, such stoves are rare, making its preservation in Richie’s home all the more meaningful.
During this trip, Richie not only honored his ancestors and chatted with neighbors but also enjoyed a steaming bowl of hot dry noodles—a beloved Wuhan specialty famous for its irresistible sesame aroma.
Before stepping onto the concert stage, he took this precious opportunity to reconnect with his heritage. Richie has always remembered where he comes from and where his roots lie. His strong sense of family and homeland shines through in every visit.
May his upcoming hometown concert be a complete success, and may he continue to return often—perhaps next time with his father—to experience the remarkable changes of his ancestral village.
