On November 16, YouTube channel Max Tech released a video comparing the OnePlus 15 and Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max, revealing significant overheating issues with the OnePlus 15 under heavy load.
During the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark, the OnePlus 15, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, saw temperatures rise sharply within minutes, eventually forcing the benchmark app to close. In a second round, the overheating recurred after 8 minutes, temporarily affecting system functions like flashlight and mobile hotspot until temperatures returned to normal.
To better compare thermal control, Max Tech ran seven rounds of the same test side by side with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The OnePlus 15 reached a peak of 52°C, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max stayed at 39.5°C—a 12.5-degree difference.
Tech outlet Wccftech points to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip as the root cause. Geekbench 6 benchmarks show the chip consumes 19.5W under multi-core load—61% higher than the A19 Pro’s 12.1W. Although both use TSMC 3nm process, the higher power translates to more heat, posing a major challenge for the phone’s cooling system.
