Golden Horse 62: Fan Bingbing Wins Best Actress for Mother Earth, Studio’s Congratulatory Weibo Post Later Removed

(Beijing, 23rd) Chinese actress Fan Bingbing won Best Leading Actress at this year’s Golden Horse Awards for her performance in Mother Earth. Her studio’s official Weibo account posted a congratulatory message shortly after the news broke, but the post was later removed. Fan Bingbing herself then updated her personal Weibo in the early hours of the 23rd, writing, “At this moment, I feel a little happy,” drawing waves of congratulatory messages from fans.

According to Central News Agency, Fan Bingbing did not attend the Golden Horse ceremony. Director Chong Keat Aun accepted the award on her behalf, and Fan delivered an emotional acceptance speech via phone call, thanking the Golden Horse Awards and also acknowledging filmmakers in mainland China.

The original Weibo post from “Fan Bingbing Studio” wrote: “Congratulations to Fan Bingbing for winning the Best Leading Actress from Treasure Island for her role as ‘Fengyin’ in Mother Earth!”
The post praised the character’s resilience and symbolic connection to feminine strength, expressing gratitude to the judges, production team, and audience. It also noted that Fan Bingbing would continue striving to explore new roles with dedication.

Notably, the now-deleted post avoided using the terms “Taiwan” or “Golden Horse Awards,” instead referring to the award simply as “Best Leading Actress from Treasure Island.” The post disappeared without explanation, and its related trending topic on Weibo was also removed.

Fan later posted on her personal account saying she had spent the night replying to over 600 congratulatory messages and then treated herself to hairy crabs: “I feel a little happy, a little overwhelmed…” She also uploaded a selfie and a photo of the leftover crab shells.

Fan Bingbing faced major controversy in 2018 when she was investigated for tax evasion involving “yin-yang contracts.” She was ordered to pay a total of RMB 883 million in back taxes and fines. Although she was not criminally charged, the incident drew heavy criticism and led to a long period of low-profile activity in mainland China.
