Italy defeats Spain to claim a third consecutive Davis Cup title.

(Bologna, AFP) Italy captured their third straight Davis Cup title on Sunday (Nov 23), defeating Spain 2–0 in front of an electric home crowd to complete a remarkable three-peat.

Both teams entered the final missing their top stars: Spain were without World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, while Italy lacked World No.2 Jannik Sinner. Despite the absences, Italy dominated the two singles matches to seal the championship.

Matteo Berrettini set the tone with a convincing 6–3, 6–4 victory over Pablo Carreño Busta, giving Italy a 1–0 lead.
Flavio Cobolli then staged a stunning comeback in the decisive second singles match. After dropping the first set, he rallied to defeat Jaume Munar 1–6, 7–6 (5), 7–5, securing the title without the need for a doubles rubber.

Speaking after his emotional win, Cobolli said:
“This is a dream come true. We’re a very united team, and we wanted to bring back the spirit of Italy’s 2006 World Cup win. I’m incredibly proud of everyone — and our fans are truly part of the team. Today is the best day of my life.”

Italy’s triumph is even more impressive given the absence of their two top-10 stars, Sinner and Musetti. Berrettini praised the team’s depth:
“It doesn’t matter who steps on court. Our roster is strong, and the young guys are performing incredibly well.”

Spain also suffered from the absence of their leader, Alcaraz, who withdrew after suffering a hamstring injury during the ATP Finals last week.

This was Spain’s first Davis Cup final appearance since their 2019 title run, but they fell short of claiming a seventh crown.
Team captain David Ferrer commented:
“It was a very close tie. We were really, really close. Italy played unbelievably well in the key moments, and winning in Italy is never easy.”
