Behind the explosive rise of this app is a clear signal: the next stage of AI is shifting from simply chatting to actually getting things done.

In the past week, the AI app Lingguang (“Spark”) has skyrocketed in popularity. Launched on November 18, it surpassed 1 million users by the 22nd and reached 2 million downloads by the 24th—breaking records and growing faster than ChatGPT, Claude, and even OpenAI’s hit app Sora.
The surge was so dramatic that Lingguang’s servers briefly went down on day three before undergoing eight rounds of emergency scaling. It's now high on China’s App Store rankings. Behind this explosive growth lies a major shift in AI’s evolution: from chatting to getting things done.
Why did it go viral?
Lingguang’s signature feature is Flash Apps—users can build mini-apps in just 30 seconds through natural conversation, without any coding. This attracted office workers, students, parents, and hobbyists who quickly created tools such as writing assistants, translators, study helpers, fitness trackers, and even retro games.
Lingguang also emphasizes “information aesthetics”: concise answers with strong summarization, enhanced by images or 3D animations to simplify complex concepts.
The start of AI’s “action era”
As major models converge in conversational ability, the new battleground is practical task execution. Lingguang proves that people want AI that can help them do things, not just talk. By letting anyone create apps with natural language, it lowers the barrier between ideas and execution, turning AI into a true productivity tool.
A broader trend: multimodality + usefulness
Google’s Gemini 3, OpenAI’s multimodal hardware, and Plaud’s AI-powered audio card all point to a shift toward practical, multimodal AI. Lingguang is preparing further upgrades in code generation and SVG/graphics technologies, aiming for dynamic visual explanations—even of quantum mechanics.
Lingguang represents a new paradigm: AI evolving from a conversation tool into a productivity engine, accelerating the arrival of accessible, practical AI for everyone.
