(Beijing, 13th) Award-winning actress Kara Hui, 65, is widely respected for both her acting skills and professionalism. While attending the 2025 Powerhouse Film Gala in China on the 10th, she was asked about one of the most unforgettable moments in her career—and she recalled a particularly demanding stunt scene from earlier years.
Hui shared that a film once required her to perform a high-rise jump with only minimal wire support, a stunt so daunting that even her double hesitated to do it. With night falling and the shoot running out of time, she ultimately decided to do it herself. She admitted she was nervous at first—approaching the edge and pulling back repeatedly—until she asked the action director to give her a firm push so the shot could be completed. She also noted that the protective conditions on set were limited, making the sequence especially risky. At one point, there was even an issue where the rigging rebounded and got caught, but she was thankfully unharmed overall.
When asked where her courage came from, Hui said she wanted to respect her work and responsibilities as an action performer, and she didn’t want the shot to be lost once it got too dark to film. She added that she even told her manager not to inform her family at the time, fearing they would worry. While everything ended safely, she said the experience left her with a scar. The story later trended online under the hashtag about her doing a stunt her double wouldn’t attempt, sparking widespread discussion.
