People close to his agency further explained that Anderson is not a “naturalized mercenary” under FIBA’s framework. He has real roots in China and family ties there. If the national team needs him, the door is not closed on him continuing to play for Team China in the future. There’s even a possibility—down the line—of him playing in the CBA. For many fans, that perspective feels genuinely reassuring: Anderson’s connection to China is personal, and his willingness to respond if called reflects that commitment.

That said, the current national team may not urgently need a player like Anderson. He’s more of a complementary, glue-type contributor.
