Bosco Wong Fine-Tunes His Role in News 3, Shows Acting Momentum Again — Co-stars Rally Votes to Boost His Best Actor Bid

Bosco Wong has sparked widespread discussion with his role as Kingston, a profit-driven senior executive at a news channel, in TVB’s drama The Queen of News 2. The buzz has also placed him among the contenders for this year’s Best Actor (TV) award. Wong said he “really enjoyed” the performance, and added that if the series returns for another season, he hopes to shape the character into someone “both righteous and sinister,” giving him room to showcase even more range. He has also received strong public support, with multiple friends in the industry recording videos to rally votes for him.

While many are tipping Raymond Lo as a top favorite for Best Actor at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards, The Queen of News 2—though already finished airing in mainland China—still pulled 22.6 rating points for its Hong Kong finale. Wong’s sharp-tongued “Kingston” persona became a citywide talking point. Cast members including Venus Wong, Rosita Kwok, Hera Chan, and Ben Yuen, as well as Liza Wang—his co-star in the new drama Behind the Glamour—have all posted videos endorsing Wong’s first-ever Best Actor bid, further boosting his momentum. Reports also claim that his fans will hand out promotional materials in Mong Kok on Christmas Eve to campaign for him.

Wong said he was deeply moved by the support from seniors, co-stars, and fans, and repeatedly expressed his gratitude. Responding to comments that Kingston is “annoying” and “mean-mouthed,” he laughed: “He has to be like that for it to be satisfying. I had a blast playing him—I could use every trick to roast people, which you obviously can’t do in real life. I don’t know if my friends and fans are just flattering me, but they said it’s a good thing the role landed with me. If someone else played it, they might’ve gotten beaten up already!”

As for rumors that a third season may be in the works, Wong said nothing is confirmed and it depends on executive producer Chung Shu-kai’s plans. Asked whether he hopes Kingston will “turn over a new leaf,” Wong preferred a morally gray approach: “If he becomes completely good, he wouldn’t be Kingston anymore.” He did not directly address questions about confidence or strong competitors for the Best Actor race, keeping a relaxed tone and saying that being able to fully immerse himself in acting matters most. He also joked that he hasn’t decided what to wear to the awards yet and may surprise viewers.

Ben Yuen, who engaged in a “battle of wits” storyline with Wong in the drama, also praised his co-star: “This production put me in a totally new environment, and Bosco took great care of me. He brought a profit-first executive to life in such an effortless way, yet still made him calculating and sharp—there’s almost nothing to fault.” Yuen added that he hopes to collaborate again if schedules align, and would love to work once more with Wong, Charmaine Sheh, and Dexter Young, saying the shoot was “genuinely joyful.”
