Jessica Hsuan Says She Wouldn’t Mind Winning Best Actress Again — Reveals She’s Single and “Open to Suitors”

(Hong Kong, 23rd) Hong Kong actresses Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok, and Joyce Tang attended the promotional kick-off event for the film A Step Into the Past on the 22nd. The trio hugged excitedly on stage, saying they haven’t seen each other for six years since finishing the film, making the reunion feel especially meaningful. Hsuan shared that returning to the film version more than 20 years later felt even happier than expected, adding that the title is a cherished childhood memory for many viewers. She also noted there’s a strong chance she may not attend the TVB Anniversary Awards due to work commitments.

When praised for looking youthful, they said they simply try to slow down aging. Hsuan complimented Tang as the best maintained among them, while Kwok recalled that the TV drama version was her first period production and she had fewer scenes with Hsuan and Tang—so she felt unfamiliar and even a little intimidated at the time. Filming the movie, however, felt much more natural, “as if we’ve known each other forever.”

The three said they accepted the project immediately because Louis Koo personally invited them. Tang joked that scheduling was trickier for her because she is currently filming Come Home Love, but she had a great time and would be happy to return if a sequel happens. Hsuan added that Koo took on multiple roles for the production and looked stressed and exhausted on set, so everyone tried not to distract him. She said the characters will remain connected, and if there’s another installment, she’d love to see more storylines centered on the women—then joked that Koo could “marry Tang as well,” with “three women sharing one husband,” which Kwok playfully said she wouldn’t mind.

Hsuan also addressed a recent hand-holding photo she posted online. Kwok and Tang congratulated her right away, but Hsuan awkwardly clarified it was simply a photo holding hands with a female friend. Laughing, she quipped, “Don’t scare the men away!” and confirmed she is currently single and open to being approached.

On awards talk, Hsuan is in the running for Best Actress at the TVB Anniversary Awards for After the Giant Tower, and she has been mentioned alongside The Queen of News 2 star Charmaine Sheh as a strong contender. Hsuan urged people not to frame it that way, saying many performers did great work and that being nominated is already gratifying—she even mentioned following Forensic Heroes 12 (as referenced). Asked whether A Step Into the Past being released could help her chances, she said she may not even attend the ceremony due to work, and that she views awards as “fate”—she acts for the joy of collaboration rather than trophies. Still, she added that since she has won before, she wouldn’t mind winning again.
