Barcelona are facing a defining decision. One is a former world-class No.9, the other an English star still in his prime. The question is simple but loaded: Robert Lewandowski or Marcus Rashford?
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, a recent survey among Barça members reveals a clear shift in sentiment. Nearly 60% of respondents oppose renewing Lewandowski’s contract, while a majority are urging the club to secure Rashford on a permanent deal.
In the poll, 59.3% of members rejected a Lewandowski extension, compared to just 31.6% who support keeping him. Meanwhile, 54.6% want sporting director Deco to spend around €30 million to buy Rashford outright, with only a minority opposing or preferring to wait until the end of the season.
Lewandowski, now 37, joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 for €45 million. Despite his age, he remained prolific and was a key figure in last season’s La Liga and Copa del Rey double. This campaign, however, injuries and form issues have limited his role—18 appearances, 10 starts, with 8 goals and 1 assist. His contract expires in six months, and renewal talks remain stalled.
While the member survey does not represent an official club stance, it reflects a growing consensus: Lewandowski’s time at Barça may be coming to an end, possibly even outside Europe’s top five leagues.
From a tactical standpoint, letting him go is not without risk. Barcelona lack another true center-forward capable of combining hold-up play, aerial presence, link-up ability, and finishing. Rashford and others can fill in, but none replicate Lewandowski’s complete striker profile.
Still, the club may be prioritizing youth, wages, and long-term flexibility. The debate is now fully open—and the fans have made their voices heard.
Who should Barça keep: Lewandowski or Rashford?
