On December 28, Brazilian media urbnews reported that newly-promoted Chinese Super League side Liaoning Ironmen officially signed 29-year-old Brazilian winger Breno Lopez from Fortaleza, with a transfer fee of approximately ¥12 million. This signing marks the peak of Liaoning’s winter transfer window and represents a major boost for head coach Li Jinyu.
According to reports, Liaoning purchased 50% of Lopez’s rights for 10 million Brazilian Reais (≈¥12 million), with both parties agreeing. Lopez will be registered and play for Liaoning in the 2026 season, while the remaining 50% ownership will be negotiated between Fortaleza and Liaoning at the end of next year, with the higher bidder gaining full rights.
From a cost-effectiveness perspective, this deal is a bargain for Liaoning. Lopez has long been a standout in the Brazilian Serie A, winning two league titles and two Copa Libertadores trophies with Palmeiras, helping the club achieve the historic “quadruple crown.” His market value is currently estimated at around €2.5 million, significantly higher than Liaoning’s acquisition cost.
Liaoning’s winter reinforcements already include domestic talents like Li Tixiang, Yan Dinghao, and Dilmurat, and with Lopez added to the squad, Li Jinyu now has a deep and versatile roster. The team’s goals for next season may extend beyond mere survival, as their squad strength has clearly increased.
