Three days after Yongzhou clinched the championship on December 27, female owner Tang Lei has yet to deliver on her promise to reward each player with a car. Company staff recently stated, “That was just a blessing,” leaving players visibly disappointed.

Back in August, when few believed Yongzhou could win the title, Tang Lei told the team: “If you win the Xiang Super League, each of you will get a car.” Her words inspired the players, who affectionately called her “Top Sister.” During the regular season, Yongzhou ranked fifth, and in the semifinals faced favorites Changsha. Journalists contacting the company’s legal representative were told, “It was just our good wishes.” A high-profile promise had become a mere “blessing,” leaving players hurt and frustrated.

In a livestream, Yongzhou’s top shooter Gao Xiang expressed his feelings: “Before the Changsha match, she promised to give us cars. We won, and she didn’t. It’s really upsetting. If she’d said from the start she wouldn’t, that’s fine—but doing this after we win is just painful.”
