Despite many of his friends and family being Manchester United supporters, worried he might struggle for starting spots at Manchester City, the 24-year-old Ghanaian forward has made his choice. He is joining a club capable of challenging for the Premier League and competing in the Champions League—Manchester City—turning down United’s interest.

Since committing to City, Semenyo has regained his form, scoring in three consecutive matches, including at Old Trafford. This season, he has netted 9 Premier League goals, only behind teammate Erling Haaland (19) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (11), alongside 3 assists. Reports suggest Bournemouth and City have made significant progress on the £65 million release clause, and Semenyo has reached a verbal agreement with the club. He is expected to play his farewell match against Chelsea.

This transfer also highlights Manchester United’s challenges. The Manchester Evening News reports that January reinforcements may be limited, with midfield signings potentially delayed until summer, especially if the Red Devils secure Champions League qualification. Manager Ruben Amorim hinted at limited activity in the winter window, stressing that no player will be signed unless aligned with the club’s long-term vision, and decisions must be made in consultation with the sporting director—a clear departure from former manager Ten Hag’s approach.
