December 29 – According to Oriental Sports Daily, with the release of China’s women’s national team new training squad, coach Milisic has narrowly avoided dismissal. Although the heavy defeat in a recent friendly drew widespread criticism, the absence of a contract clause allowing termination without penalty meant that firing Milisic would have incurred significant compensation, ultimately saving his position.
The 0-8 loss to England in Europe had sparked public outcry and intensified calls for a coaching change. Two candidates were reportedly considered: Shui Qingxia and Chang Wei. However, Shui Qingxia clearly declined to take over the team, and Chang Wei, head coach of Wuhan FC, was unavailable due to club commitments and the lack of a formal invitation from the Chinese Football Association (CFA).
As a result, the plan to replace Milisic was shelved. To strengthen support amid controversy, CFA appointed two domestic coaches, Wang Hongliang and Qu Chuliang, to the women’s coaching staff, providing technical and managerial assistance to help Milisic navigate the team forward.
