iPhone 17 Pro Demo Units Already Showing Scuffs: Hard to Watch

This morning at 8 a.m., Apple officially launched the iPhone 17 series, with offline stores showcasing the devices for hands-on experiences. However, early feedback suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro’s design has not impressed the masses. Many users who tried the devices in person felt the orange version looked overly harsh, while the blue variant appeared outdated, falling short of mainstream aesthetic preferences. Even more surprising, display units of the iPhone 17 Pro in Apple Stores were already covered with scratches, sparking heated discussions online. The culprit appears to be Apple’s switch to an aluminum alloy frame, which has significantly reduced scratch resistance compared to the titanium bodies of the last two generations. Photos shared by bloggers show clear marks on demo units within hours of being displayed, with the blue model particularly prone to visible wear. This has led to widespread criticism, with some even calling it the least premium-looking Pro model to date. Looking back at Apple’s material journey, the company used stainless steel from the iPhone X through the iPhone 14 Pro series, before transitioning to titanium with the iPhone 15 Pro. Among enthusiasts, stainless steel remains the gold standard for premium feel, followed by titanium, while aluminum has drawn the harshest criticism. Still, judging the iPhone 17 Pro solely on material choice would be unfair. From a performance standpoint, the aluminum build delivers a major advantage in thermal management. Paired with a new vapor chamber (VC) cooling system, Apple claims the iPhone 17 Pro achieves 20 times better heat dissipation than its predecessor. This leap allows the device to sustain peak performance during gaming, 4K video recording, and other demanding tasks, offering users a far smoother and more reliable experience.
