Napoli must be frustrated! Their attempt to loan Real Madrid’s rising star Mastantono was immediately rejected. The 18-year-old Argentine, hailed as “Messi’s successor,” has faced criticism this season, yet Real Madrid remains confident in his potential.

Although Mastantono became a substitute due to injury, Madrid has no intention of letting him go. According to Spain’s Marca, Serie A champions Napoli inquired about a loan deal, but Real Madrid didn’t even consider the offer and outright refused. Madrid’s determination is clear, but questions remain about whether the young talent truly justifies such faith.

Mastantono primarily plays as a right winger or attacking midfielder and can also operate as a false nine. Formerly at River Plate, he joined Madrid in the summer of 2025 for over €60 million, beating PSG and other competitors. Since arriving at the Bernabéu, he quickly broke into the first team, featuring regularly in La Liga and the Champions League. So far, he has played 14 matches (10 starts), scoring 1 goal with 0 assists—modest numbers. To ensure more playing time, Madrid even prevented him from participating in the U-20 World Cup, where Argentina’s youth team eventually lost in the final.

After returning from injury, Mastantono temporarily became a substitute due to match fitness, but coach Xabi Alonso is unlikely to keep him on the bench long-term. With Rodrigo stepping up in recent matches, Alonso won’t discard this promising talent lightly. Mastantono is poised to reclaim a starting role and remain a key building block for Madrid’s future.
