On December 29, media outlets analyzed data from Transfermarkt, RSSSF, and Fbref to compare the historical goal-scoring records of top stars like Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Suarez, Lewandowski, Benzema, Kane, Mbappé, Haaland, and Cavani, broken down by age.

The findings reveal that Ronaldo only leads at ages 39 (912 goals) and 40 (956 goals). Haaland tops three age categories, but his record at 16 excludes Amar, so it isn’t fully accurate. Mbappé has six age-leading records (17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26). Neymar leads at 20, 22, and 23, while Suarez, Lewandowski, Benzema, Kane, and Cavani never lead any age.

Messi, however, is the true historical dominator. From 27 to 38, Messi holds the age-specific goal-scoring record consecutively: 27 (424), 28 (483), 29 (543), 30 (600), 31 (657), 32 (690), 33 (738), 34 (776), 35 (798), 36 (819), 37 (834), 38 (896). With his contract at Inter Miami extending to 41, Messi could potentially remain the top scorer for ages 39–41.

At the same ages, Messi consistently leads Ronaldo: 38-year-old Messi has 896 goals vs. Ronaldo’s 847, and at 37, 834 vs. 814. With his current form, Messi is on track to surpass 1000 goals and 400 assists, remaining unmatched in goal efficiency—a living legend.
