Musk’s X Platform Under Investigation After Chatbot Allegedly Generates Explicit Content

PARIS, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) — The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed on Thursday that it has opened an investigation into Grok, the chatbot developed by U.S. entrepreneur Elon Musk’s AI company xAI, over allegations that it generated illegal pornographic content.

Developed by xAI and embedded into Musk-owned social media platform X, Grok can be accessed directly by X users. In recent days, some users on the platform have been seen using Grok to edit images and videos, with certain AI-generated results appearing highly realistic.

According to reports, some users exploited these capabilities to create fabricated explicit content featuring real individuals and then disseminated it on X. The alleged victims include hundreds of women and minors.

On Jan. 2, several French government ministers and members of the National Assembly filed complaints with judicial authorities regarding the matter. Later that day, the Paris prosecutor’s office said it would launch an investigation.

French media also reported that the Paris prosecutor’s office has been investigating X since July last year, citing allegations that the platform may have facilitated foreign interference by manipulating algorithms. The probe into Grok is described as an extension of that ongoing investigation.
