A Step into the Past has grossed over RM7.3 million in Malaysia after just five days in theaters.

(Kuala Lumpur, Jan 5) The film A Step Into the Past is currently screening nationwide across Malaysia and is gaining strong momentum. In just five days, the Malaysia box office has surged past RM 7.3 million, with audience buzz and word of mouth continuing to rise.

Produced and led by Louis Koo, the movie reunites the original cast, including Raymond Lam, Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok, and Shirley Yeung. The film premiered in Malaysia on December 31, simultaneously with Hong Kong, bringing the beloved 25-year classic to the big screen—reviving nostalgic memories for long-time fans while drawing in new viewers with its cinematic scale and emotional resonance.

Box-office performance has remained impressive. The film earned RM 1.45 million on its opening day, surpassed RM 3.5 million in its first two days, and continued its strong run to exceed RM 7.3 million by Day 5—an eye-catching result rarely seen for Hong Kong films in Malaysia in recent years.

Hong Kong and Macau have also posted strong numbers. As of 4:00 PM on January 4, the combined box office officially exceeded HKD 40 million (HKD 40,234,443), with momentum still trending upward.

Previously, when asked about the film setting a new pre-sale record in Malaysia for a Hong Kong production, Louis Koo joked, “Now we can eat!” He also said that if the box office continues to climb, he will visit Malaysia with Jessica Hsuan and Raymond Lam to celebrate and greet audiences ahead of the New Year.
