The Great Maotai Rush: Scalpers Step Back

One minute before 9 a.m., Li Hong expertly opens the iMaotai app, switches to 5G, and stares intently at the gray button: “Waiting for 9:00 to start purchasing.” Across the country, millions of eager buyers are ready, all aiming for a single goal: a 2026 vintage 53° Feitian Maotai priced at 1,499 RMB. Online forums are flooded with tips like “switch the year to refresh stock” and “verify valid accounts,” dissected down to the last detail.
This nationwide frenzy is the result of an unprecedented transformation in Maotai’s distribution and pricing. From January 1, 2026, the 53° Feitian Maotai officially went live on iMaotai at 1,499 RMB per bottle, with timed releases directly reaching consumers. Within nine days, the platform gained over 2.7 million new users and completed more than 400,000 transactions. The rules of the Maotai game are quietly being rewritten.
From “Earning Thousands” to Rational Buying
Since New Year’s Day, thousands line up online each morning. Historically, the market price of 500ml Feitian Maotai reached thousands of RMB, creating an extensive scalping market with profits often exceeding 1,000 RMB per bottle. Shaanxi buyer Liu Ge managed to secure two cases on January 1–2, paying 8,994 RMB per case and reselling them for 9,494 RMB—a net gain of 83 RMB per bottle. Compared with past peak prices, this margin is modest.
As iMaotai continues to increase supply, flipping profits have narrowed. On January 5, Zhang Chi sold one case for an extra 255 RMB, only half of his expectation. He remarked, “Previously, gifting Maotai was about its high price and scarcity. Now, it no longer carries the same prestige.”
Scalpers Exit
The market shift has forced scalpers to reassess risk and reward. On January 14, Tianjin buyer Li Qi sold his bottles at original price. A Shandong wine merchant noted that premiums for standard Feitian cases dropped to roughly 200 RMB, or only about 30 RMB per bottle—barely the cost of a fancy cup of tea. Maotai’s longstanding “financial myth” is facing rational consumer behavior and market reforms.
Through the market-oriented reforms in distribution and pricing, Maotai is directly benefiting end consumers: bottles from 2019–2024 vintages are now on iMaotai, priced from 1,909 to 2,649 RMB, breaking old reseller margins. On January 12, Maotai further reduced wholesale prices for select premium and aged products by over 1,000 RMB, signaling the end of the scalper era.
Genuine Consumption Emerges
With authentic Maotai more accessible, younger buyers are joining in. 29-year-old Li Cheng shared, “Maotai was familiar yet distant; now I can finally taste it at the original price.” Since iMaotai’s launch, over 2.7 million new users have been reached, most of whom were previously beyond Maotai’s channels.
Every morning at 9, alarms ring and stocks vanish instantly, yet buyers await the next batch. As Feitian Maotai moves from the investment altar to dining tables, this quiet value reappraisal is only just beginning.
Rasmus Højlund's Redemption: 8 Goals in 10 Matches Post-Man United — Amorim Demands End to “Heart-Attack Football”
Since leaving Manchester United, Rasmus Højlund has rediscovered his best form — 8 goals in 10 games for Napoli and Denmark. While he thrives under low-pressure conditions, new United manager Rúben Amorim has diagnosed the club's core issue: chaotic football that’s thrilling to watch but emotionally draining. The message is clear — maturity and stability must replace chaos and drama.
