(New Delhi, Jan 16) The India Open (Super 750) continued with the men’s doubles quarterfinals today, where Malaysia’s “Shea-Soh” pair Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik faced Chinese Taipei’s Yang Po-hsuan / Lee Jhe-huei, who had eliminated Malaysia’s “Fei-Tin” duo in the previous round. Having won all four of their earlier meetings, Chia/Soh extended that record again, claiming a straight-games victory 21–19, 21–14 to book a place in the semifinals.
In the first game, the score stayed tight early at 5–5 before the Taipei pair edged ahead 7–5 and 10–7. Chia/Soh responded with a four-point burst to turn the tables and led 11–10 at the interval. They pushed ahead to 15–12, but were pegged back to 15–15. In the closing stages, Chia/Soh regained control at 18–15 and earned game point at 20–18. The Taipei pair closed to 19–20, yet Chia/Soh held firm to take the opener 21–19.
The second game saw the Malaysians race to an 8–3 lead and maintain momentum into the break at 11–6. They kept their advantage throughout, moving ahead 13–8, 15–10 and 18–12, before converting match point from 20–14 to seal the match 21–14 and advance to the last four.
