If Not Everyone: Chongqing Boss Pledges to Gift Cars—But Only if Two Chongqing Players Score in the Final

Tonight, the U23 Asian Cup final will take center stage, with China set to face Japan. Ahead of kickoff, the head of a Chongqing-based automaker made a bold pledge: if two Chongqing players—Xiang Yuwang and Li Zhenquan—score in the final, the company will gift each of the goalscorers a car.
Earlier this morning (January 24), the 2025 Forbes China Automotive Industry Selection Summit was held in Wuhan. Chongqing-headquartered Changan Qiyuan attended the event, where General Manager Di Zhirui delivered a keynote speech and revealed the incentive plan tied to the two Chongqing-born players.
Speaking to reporters, Di said he is a supporter of the Chongqing Tonglianglong Football Club. He noted that Xiang Yuwang and Li Zhenquan—both associated with the club—are expected to feature in tonight’s final. “We just discussed it,” Di said. “If either of them scores, we’ll give them a car.”
Di explained that the gesture is meant to motivate the pair and help push the team toward goals. Xiang has already made a major impact in the tournament—he found the net in the semifinal, helping China secure a 3–0 victory over Vietnam.
As for what model the players might receive, Di declined to provide details. “No spoilers for now,” he said. “Stay tuned. This decision was just made, and we’re working on the plan.” A Changan Qiyuan staff member later added that the company is still finalizing the proposal and expects to release an official promotional poster later today.
The announcement quickly sparked debate online. Some commenters questioned why the reward was limited to Chongqing players rather than the entire squad, arguing that the focus should remain on unity before a major final. Others suggested that any incentive should apply to all Chinese players who score, not just those from a specific city.
