According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have reached a full agreement with 22-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder Fermín on a contract extension. The new deal will run until 2031, replacing his previous contract that was set to expire in 2029, with the official signing expected later this week.

Romano reports that Fermín accepted Barcelona’s offer on Monday. Following the renewal, his salary will be increased, and his release clause will be doubled from €500 million to an astonishing €1 billion, underlining the club’s long-term commitment to the player.

Chelsea had shown interest in Fermín during last summer’s transfer window, submitting a €40 million bid. However, that figure was never close to Barcelona’s valuation. More importantly, Fermín is a key figure in head coach Hansi Flick’s plans. This season, he has featured in 25 matches across all competitions, recording 10 goals and 10 assists—making him the second-most involved player in goals for Barça, only behind Lamine Yamal (11 goals, 11 assists). Unsurprisingly, he is considered untouchable.

From a tactical perspective, Fermín has become a crucial weapon in breaking down stubborn defenses. His combination of passing, finishing, and especially his long-range shooting gives Barcelona an effective solution against low blocks. At just 22 years old, he still has significant room for development, and his profile complements the more injury-prone Dani Olmo perfectly, helping Barcelona cope better with the demands of competing on multiple fronts.
