Udoka Criticized for Lineup Decisions: Durant Wasted in Third Quarter, Four Role Players “Benched” in Second Half!

The Rockets fell 99-111 to the Spurs, struggling offensively and defensively in the fourth quarter, with Udoka’s lineup choices taking the brunt of criticism.

In particular, Durant had almost no touches in the third quarter, running back and forth without being involved. If he had more opportunities, the Rockets could have extended the lead and avoided a late-game collapse. Fatigue and constant double-teams in the fourth made his presence almost useless.

Four role players who performed well in the first half were ignored in the second half. Smith shot 2/4 from three, posting 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal; Iason made both of his threes for 6 points and 2 steals. Yet in the second half, they saw almost no action. Giving them proper opportunities could have stabilized the offense.

Capela, dominant defensively in the first half, was inexplicably replaced by an out-of-form Sengun, who struggled on both ends. Okogie, who provided spacing and solid defense last season, barely played in the second half, which was a wasted asset.

In summary, the Rockets’ loss is largely on Udoka. He failed to bench underperforming Sengun and Shepard timely, and neglected five players who could have contributed. The second-half rotation and tactical adjustments were simply poor.
