18 Premier League Losses Create Multiple Club Records of Shame! Manchester United’s 8-Match Winless Streak Continues, Yet Amolin Claims Team Remains Competitive Ahead of Europa League Final

In the early hours of May 17, during the 37th round of the Premier League 2024/25 season, Manchester United suffered a 0-1 away defeat to Chelsea, extending their winless streak in the league to 8 matches (2 draws and 6 losses). Their position remains 16th on the points table. Although Manchester United has no chance to improve their league standing, their main focus is on preparing for the upcoming Europa League final. However, this poor run of form has led the Red Devils to set several embarrassing records.

Firstly, this season marks the first time in Manchester United’s history that they have not recorded a consecutive league win throughout the entire campaign. Secondly, it is the club’s first time in the Premier League going 8 matches without a win; the last time they had an 8-match winless streak in the league was 35 years ago, from late 1989 to early 1990, when they went 11 matches without a victory.

Thirdly, this is the first time since the 1973/74 season (when they lost 20 matches) that Manchester United has lost 18 league matches in a single season. Fourthly, Manchester United’s 18 away points this season is the worst in their history since the Premier League’s inception.

Despite the poor results, manager Amolin does not seem overly concerned. After the match, he said: “The match unfolded unusually, and losing is always disappointing. But even ranking 16th in the Premier League, we clearly remain competitive. In five days, we will face a crucial final, and it’s exciting to have reached it. Although pressure is constant, I can remain calm. We will give our all in any cup final and are fully prepared.”

The Europa League final will feature a “battle of the strugglers” between 16th-placed Manchester United and 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur. The winner will earn a spot in next season’s Champions League, while the loser will face the disgrace of finishing the season empty-handed.
