While most Asian markets advanced today, Malaysian equities pulled back, giving up part of the gains accumulated over the past several sessions. The FBM KLCI briefly slipped below the 1,720 mark during the day and ended lower at 1,730.89, down 25.60 points or 1.46%.

The benchmark opened at 1,753.31 but weakened soon after. Selling pressure pushed the index to an intraday low of 1,719.52 before losses narrowed toward the close, finishing at 1,730.89.

Total market volume reached 3.06188 billion shares with a turnover of RM3.95293 billion. Breadth was negative, with 373 gainers, 800 decliners, and 531 unchanged counters.

27 KLCI constituents closed lower
KLCI components broadly declined—27 ended down, with only 2 up and 1 flat. Among major movers, Hong Leong Bank (HLBANK) fell 52 sen (-2.09%) to RM24.32 (third-biggest loser), while Petronas Gas (PETGAS) dropped 34 sen (-1.83%) to RM18.26 (fourth-biggest loser).
RHB Bank (RHBBANK) slid 22 sen (-2.64%) to RM8.10, and PPB Group (PPB) eased 20 sen (-1.75%) to RM11.20.

GuocoLand Malaysia jumps despite profit dip
GuocoLand Malaysia (GUOCO) reported its 2QFY2026 results (ended Dec 31) yesterday, with net profit down 9.48% y-o-y to RM6.67 million, while revenue rose 4.62% to RM150.82 million. Despite the profit decline, the stock drew strong buying interest today.
It opened at 84.5 sen, trended higher after brief fluctuations, and closed at 90 sen, up 6 sen or 7.14%.
