On January 30, NBC Sports reported that the Golden State Warriors are currently leading the race for Giannis Antetokounmpo. With up to four potential first-round picks to offer, the Warriors hold a significant advantage in the bidding war. Insider Slater confirmed the report. A league executive noted, “The faster the Bucks trade Giannis, the higher the chances the Warriors win the bid.”

The Warriors have reached out to the Bucks, willing to trade all assets except Stephen Curry. A potential 8-for-2 trade framework includes Butler, Kuminga, Moody, Pojiemski, first-round picks in 2028, 2030, 2032, and a 2031 pick swap in exchange for Giannis and Kuzma. Regardless of Giannis’ injury status or return timetable, the Warriors’ intentions remain firm.

However, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are not to be overlooked. The Heat, holding Tyler Herro, rising center prospect Veer, and tradable first-round picks in 2030 and 2032, are poised to strike. The Wolves have Giannis’ interest in joining Anthony Edwards but can only offer limited draft assets.

Other teams, including the Hawks, Rockets, and Spurs, have ruled themselves out. The Hawks refuse to include Jalen Johnson, the Rockets won’t sacrifice young core players, and the Spurs’ timeline conflicts with their long-term rebuild. The 76ers have not entered the race yet, though Giannis sharing a trainer with Tyrese Maxey places them on the potential list.

As trade discussions heat up, Giannis’ next destination may soon be decided, with the Warriors’ deep pool of assets giving them a clear lead in the pursuit.
