On January 30, Tencent Mugen announced the appointment of Pang Tianyu, former Senior Research Scientist at Singapore’s Sea AI Lab, as Principal Research Scientist & Tech Lead of Multimodal RL, set to start next Wednesday.
Pang has published over 20 papers at top conferences including ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV. His research focuses on trustworthy machine learning and generative models, and he has received awards such as the Microsoft Research Fellowship, Baidu Scholarship, and NVIDIA Academic Pioneer Award.
Tencent has been actively expanding its AI initiatives, establishing the AI Infra and AI Data divisions, reorganizing the large language model department, and appointing Yao Shunyu as Chief AI Scientist. Tencent chairman Ma Huateng highlighted that 2025 is a big year for AI, with Mugen continuing to attract AI-native talent to reshape its AI R&D capabilities.
