Facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class Debuts: The Old King Is Still the World’s Finest Sedan

On January 29, Mercedes-Benz celebrated its 140th anniversary with the launch of the all-new mid-cycle facelift S-Class, featuring over 2,700 updated or replaced components—the most extensive in S-Class history. The new model embraces a “bigger, brighter, more comfortable” design, measuring over 5.3 meters. Illuminated three-pointed star emblems adorn the grille and hood, while the digital cockpit integrates a 12.3-inch instrument panel, 14.4-inch central screen, and 12.3-inch front passenger display.

The S 580 4Matic features an upgraded V8 flat-crank engine with a 48V mild hybrid system, producing 530 hp and accelerating 0-100 km/h in about 4 seconds. Plug-in hybrid variants S 450e and S 580e deliver 118 km and 103 km electric range, respectively. Chassis upgrades include rear-wheel steering and cloud-connected suspension for smoother handling.

Rear passengers enjoy a 13.1-inch display, foldable tables, onboard mini fridge, wireless charging, and Zoom/Teams support, creating a “mobile office” experience.

Despite some criticism that the interior feels cold due to excessive screens, the facelifted S-Class confirms Mercedes’ continued excellence in luxury sedan engineering and design.
