Handheld battery “shrinkage” sparks backlash; the company compensates with a new unit

IT Home reported on February 3 that AYANEO issued an official statement addressing the battery capacity issue of its Pocket S Mini handheld console and announced a compensation plan.

According to AYANEO, the Pocket S Mini was originally planned to feature a 6000mAh battery. During early development, a 4700mAh non-final test battery was used to accelerate testing, with the intention to switch to 6000mAh batteries for mass production. However, due to a supply chain communication error, mass production units were ultimately built with 4700mAh batteries.

As production and shipment were accelerated ahead of the Spring Festival, engineers noticed the 4700mAh reading during testing but assumed the system information had not been updated. The issue was only confirmed later during system updates and physical inspection of the battery.

AYANEO apologized for the mistake, attributing it to serious internal coordination and execution failures, and confirmed that future Pocket S Mini units will continue to ship with 4700mAh batteries, with no 6000mAh version planned.

After evaluating multiple remedies, AYANEO announced the final compensation plan:

• Pocket S Mini will ship with a 4700mAh battery as-is
• Each customer will receive a Pocket AIR Mini worth RMB 599 (2GB+32GB), with color selection
• Users may pay an additional RMB 100 to upgrade to the 3GB+64GB version
• One free unit per Pocket S Mini purchased

Customers unsatisfied with the plan may request a full refund, which will be processed within three working days. AYANEO will also provide a RMB 100 store-wide voucher valid for orders placed before February 2, 2026.
