Alibaba Officially Launches the Standalone “Quark Cloud Drive” App, Expanding into the Personal Cloud Storage Market

DuJia has learned that Quark Cloud Drive has launched as a standalone app, marking its official entry into the personal cloud storage market on the product’s fifth anniversary. The service is backed by Alibaba Cloud’s security technologies and powered by the Qwen large language model.

As a key part of the Quark ecosystem, Quark Cloud Drive previously built a sizable user base within the Quark app. The decision to release an independent app is designed to meet demand for a more focused, purpose-built cloud drive experience. Notably, the standalone version removes both the content feed and splash-screen ads—so users can open the app and go straight to their files, bringing the product back to its core identity as a productivity tool.

On the fundamentals, Quark Cloud Drive leverages Alibaba Cloud’s security framework and has completed multiple compliance and assurance milestones, including ISO certification, China’s MLPS Level 3 requirements, and SOC audits. For data protection, the platform provides layered encryption safeguards.

Performance is another headline feature. Quark Cloud Drive claims download speeds of up to 125MB/s on gigabit networks, enabling a 10GB Blu-ray movie to be downloaded in under two minutes. It also supports full-device backup across phones, computers, and tablets, and extends compatibility to devices such as Xiaotiancai smartwatches and DJI hardware—aiming for true multi-device synchronization.

Beyond storage and transfer, the app has been optimized for different usage scenarios. Its built-in “super player” supports 4K original quality and Dolby Vision, while an in-house audiovisual enhancement algorithm is designed to improve clarity for older videos. For learning, an AI study player can extract transcripts from online courses and generate mind maps with one tap, helping users study more efficiently. Meanwhile, smart albums and natural-language search make it easier to organize and retrieve large volumes of photos and files.

Industry observers note that the standalone launch signals a strategic shift—from a “feature module” inside a broader app to a dedicated professional tool. It is also expected to become a new application scenario for the Qwen model within Alibaba’s ecosystem.

Personal cloud storage is already a crowded, highly competitive market. Still, Quark Cloud Drive’s “no ads + high-speed experience” positioning stands out and could potentially disrupt current market norms and prevailing pricing structures—possibly even pushing the category toward a renewed price war.
