(Kuala Lumpur, Feb 10) — The Lunar New Year comedy Mama, Getting Married Again! has kicked off its Malaysia-wide promotional tour, featuring actors Joel Chan, Bob Lam (Bob), Ricco Leung, Christine Ng, Malaysian actor Frederick Fung, and director Jack Neo-like Chen Lik Hin.
The team recently visited Penang and Ipoh, sharing that audience reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with laughter filling the cinemas. Known for his comedic flair, Bob even joked that if the film performs well at the box office, he would don a bunny-girl costume from the movie and run a lap around Pavilion Kuala Lumpur as a thank-you gesture.
This marks the first time Joel Chan, Bob, and Ricco Leung have collaborated on a film. Leung also made his debut as a screenwriter and even sold property to fund the project, while Chan invested his acting fee into the production. Chan admitted feeling nervous as the release approaches, saying Lunar New Year films are a big deal in Malaysia, and the team hopes to deliver a family-friendly comedy blending Hong Kong humor with Malaysian elements.
When asked about box office expectations, Leung deferred the question to Bob, who jokingly claimed they would need “hundreds of millions” to break even before clarifying that the film is a modest production. The team does not aim to top the box office, but hopes to rank among the top three festive releases.
The film opens nationwide on February 17, the first day of the Lunar New Year.
