BTS comeback concert expected to draw 260,000 attendees as Korean police deploy special forces for security

(Seoul, 10th) South Korean superstar group BTS is set to make their long-awaited comeback, with a large-scale return concert scheduled for March 21 at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul. To prevent any potential incidents, Korean police announced today that special forces units will be deployed to reinforce security.

Following the members’ completion of their mandatory military service, BTS is expected to release their fifth full-length album, ARIRANG, on March 20, followed by a comeback performance the next day. According to Yonhap News Agency, authorities estimate that approximately 230,000 people will gather between the northern stage area of Gwanghwamun Square and Daehanmun Gate of Deoksugung Palace. Including crowds stretching toward Sungnyemun Gate, the total attendance could reach up to 260,000.

During a regular press briefing, police stated that the Deputy Commissioner for Public Safety has been appointed to head a special task force to oversee preparations and ensure safety during the event.

The surrounding area will be divided into four main zones and 15 sub-sections, each supervised by a senior police officer. To prevent violence, unrest, or terrorist threats, 13 detective units from nine nearby police stations will be deployed. Special police units will also carry out counterterrorism duties, including explosive detection and suspect identification.

Event organizer HYBE previously announced that 3,553 security personnel would be assigned to the event. However, under the “beneficiary pays principle,” police are requesting the organizer to further strengthen safety measures.
