(Guangzhou, 10th) Hong Kong entertainer Jordan Chan recently attended a Huizhou CPPCC meeting in Guangdong as a committee member. During the session, he proposed using an “entertainment + cultural tourism” approach—such as organizing music festivals—to draw more young visitors to Huizhou. After photos from the meeting circulated online, many netizens noticed that the nameplate on his desk read “Chan Tai-quen (陳泰銓),” which sparked renewed discussion about past reports that he once spent over a million Hong Kong dollars to rename his entire family in hopes of improving their fortune.
Although Chan is a Hong Kong resident, his ancestral hometown is Huizhou, which is why he serves as a CPPCC member there. Appearing at the meeting under his legal name “Chen Taiquan (陳泰銓),” he suggested combining concerts, music festivals, and local attractions to create a more integrated tourism experience and encourage young people to visit and “check in” at popular spots.
Previously, Chan’s original birth name was reported to be “Chen Xiaozhen (陳小臻).” In 2020, Hong Kong media reported that after seeing actor Raymond Lo and his wife benefit from renaming, Chan reportedly spent around HKD 1 million to consult a master and rename his family of four. His wife Cherrie Ying, originally named “Ding Wen (丁文),” later adopted his surname and changed her name to “Chen Ding Ran’er (陳丁冉兒).” Their eldest son Jasper was also reportedly renamed from “Chen Yinjie (陳胤捷)” to “Chen Haoting (陳昊廷).”
