Zootopia 2 surpasses Detective Chinatown 3, entering China’s all-time top 8 box office rankings

On February 12, IT Home reported that, according to Lighthouse data, Zootopia 2 reached RMB 4.523 billion in total box office revenue in China as of 10:00 a.m. on February 12, surpassing Detective Chinatown 3 and entering the Top 8 of China’s all-time box office rankings.

The current Top 10 highest-grossing films in Chinese box office history are:

• Ne Zha 2 – RMB 15.446 billion
• The Battle at Lake Changjin – RMB 5.775 billion
• Wolf Warrior 2 – RMB 5.694 billion
• Hi, Mom – RMB 5.413 billion
• Ne Zha – RMB 5.035 billion
• The Wandering Earth – RMB 4.688 billion
• Full River Red – RMB 4.544 billion
• Zootopia 2 – RMB 4.523 billion
• Detective Chinatown 3 – RMB 4.523 billion
• Avengers: Endgame – RMB 4.250 billion

In January, Zootopia 2 became the highest-grossing Hollywood animated film in history, surpassing Inside Out 2 (2024). Meanwhile, the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 remains the highest-grossing animated film worldwide, with a global total of $2.259 billion.

Released on November 26, 2025, the film was co-directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, with Bush also serving as screenwriter. The voice cast includes Jason Bateman, Ginnifer Goodwin, Ke Huy Quan, Shakira, and Quinta Brunson. The Chinese dubbing cast features Ji Guanlin, Zhang Zhen, Dapeng, Fei Xiang, Jin Chen, and Wang Anyu.

The story follows Gary the snake, who unexpectedly causes chaos in Zootopia. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde go undercover in remote areas of the city to gather intelligence and capture him. However, they uncover deeper secrets behind the case. After helping Gary escape, they themselves become fugitives.
