Eileen Gu Ties Wang Meng with 6 Olympic Medals, Wang Praises “Well Deserved”

On February 22, at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, Eileen Gu defended her title in the women’s freestyle skiing halfpipe, scoring 94.75 points to win gold. This victory marked her 6th Olympic medal, tying multiple records. Winter Olympic legend Wang Meng took to social media to praise Gu, stating: “Eileen Gu is truly deserving!”

In the final, Gu dominated the competition, with teammate Li Fanghui taking silver, giving China a gold-silver sweep. On the podium, Gu wore a golden butterfly headpiece, sang the national anthem, proudly displayed her medal, and celebrated with Li Fanghui wrapped in the Chinese flag.

With this win, Gu became the first athlete in history to defend a women’s freestyle skiing halfpipe Olympic title and, with 6 medals, matched Wang Meng as the Chinese athlete with the most Winter Olympic medals.

Wang Meng commented: “Eileen Gu is well-deserved! Her aerial maneuvers are so elegant that even a casual spectator like me thinks they are far more graceful than flashy tricks.
