Wu Yibing Beats World No. 12 in Double Tiebreaks, Advances to Round of 16

At the ATP500 Acapulco tournament, China’s top male player Wu Yibing faced the tournament’s No. 3 seed, Casper Ruud, in the first round. In a thrilling battle, Wu secured a dramatic 7-6(2), 7-6(1) victory in two tiebreak sets, eliminating the world No. 12 and advancing to the round of 16. This marks Wu’s third career win over a Top 20 opponent.

The first set was fiercely contested, with both players holding serve through 12 games, pushing the set to a tiebreak. Wu struck first with a mini-break and closed out the tiebreak 7-2. In the second set, he dropped his serve in the fifth game but immediately broke back in the sixth to level at 3-3. Both players then held serve to reach another tiebreak, where Wu dominated 7-1 to seal the match.

The match lasted 2 hours and 5 minutes. With this victory, Wu earns 75 ATP points and rises to world No. 123 in the rankings. In the round of 16, he will face Japan’s Shintaro Imai, aiming to advance even further in the tournament.
