US Police Confirm Eileen Gu Assaulted, Arm Injuries Severe, Personal Safety Remains a Concern

According to publicly obtained records via the San Francisco Chronicle, Olympic champion Eileen Gu was allegedly assaulted on the Stanford University campus in 2023. A male suspect has been arrested for stalking and physical attack. Gu sustained significant injuries to her triceps, and other police records indicate she had previously been targeted multiple times. Considering recent negative media coverage during the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics, her personal safety risks are elevated compared to previous years.
Born in San Francisco, Gu has won six Olympic medals in freestyle skiing, including one gold and two silver at this month’s Milan Winter Games. At the time of the incident, she was 19 years old. Police reports specify that the assault occurred at the intersection of Jane Stanford Way and Ortega Street, involving a female victim and a male suspect, who had reportedly stalked and threatened her prior to the attack.
Stanford University’s annual safety report shows stalking and harassment incidents rising steadily from 30 in 2021 to 58 in 2024. Gu has also experienced burglary and threats on campus, including her email being hacked with disturbing messages, and even death threats.
Notably, her admission to Stanford faced public backlash: a petition calling for her acceptance to be revoked has garnered over 8,600 signatures, with organizers reportedly including parents of prospective students, some identifying as “ethnically Chinese but culturally Western.”
Overall, despite her high-profile career and achievements, Gu’s safety on campus remains a pressing concern, and both police and university protection measures remain critical.
