On February 28, Compal unveiled a concept notebook called AI Book, featuring a standout design: the C-side palm rest replaces the traditional touchpad with a large E-ink display.

The E-ink display supports innovative interactions: during meetings, users can take notes with a stylus on the right side while viewing speech-to-text transcripts on the left; in OneNote, users can directly write or doodle to capture inspiration.

Unlike traditional notebooks, the A-side does not fully cover the C-side, allowing the palm-rest display to remain visible when the lid is closed, showing notifications, notes, and to-do lists. Thanks to E-ink’s low-power nature, this content remains visible even when the device is off or in sleep mode.

Moreover, the C-side E-ink screen includes a hinge, allowing it to be exposed when the lid is closed, effectively transforming the notebook into a compact tablet.

Compal has not disclosed hardware specifications, and as this is a concept device, mass production is not guaranteed.
