(Hong Kong, 24th) Award-winning actor Louis Koo, who has frequently been seen wearing sunglasses at public events in recent years, has revealed that the habit is due to an eye condition rather than style. Recently, however, a disturbing incident occurred when he was allegedly targeted with a laser pointer during an appearance, sparking public outrage.
Koo attended the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Annual Awards, where a tense moment unfolded. A video circulating on Threads shows that as his vehicle arrived and he prepared to step out, a bright green laser beam was directed from the crowd and appeared to track his face—particularly his eyes.
The individual who uploaded the footage condemned the act, stating that someone deliberately aimed the laser at Koo’s eyes. Despite the interference, Koo briefly greeted fans before quickly entering the venue, while the green beam continued to follow him.
Koo has previously disclosed that he suffers from a retinal hole in his right eye, along with severe floaters, and has been wearing sunglasses regularly to protect his vision. He is currently planning for retinal repair surgery, though scheduling has been affected due to travel restrictions before the procedure.
Following the incident, many netizens expressed anger and concern, emphasizing that such behavior is not only inappropriate but potentially harmful. Some have called for the matter to be reported to authorities, noting that the laser appeared to be intentionally aimed at his eyes.
