(Taipei, March 22) Mandopop superstar Jay Chou is set to release his highly anticipated new album Son of the Sun, along with four teaser clips for the title track of the same name.
The teasers showcase cutting-edge visual technology, bringing iconic paintings to life in a three-dimensional form, leaving fans in awe.
The music video for Son of the Sun reportedly carries a massive production budget nearing NT$100 million (approximately RM12.32 million), setting a new record for the most expensive MV in Mandopop history.
Ahead of the album’s official release, one teaser is unveiled each day, with each clip paying tribute to a classic artwork. The first teaser draws inspiration from Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss (1908), while the second references Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks (1942), featuring a scene where Jay Chou interacts with Vincent van Gogh in a bar setting.
The third teaser highlights Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Pipe, and the fourth references Jacques-Louis David’s The Death of Marat (1793), blending fine art with modern music visuals.
Filming took place in both Paris and Taipei. Production began with pre-planning meetings in December 2023, followed by filming in a Paris church in January 2025. The team then moved into post-production before continuing with studio filming in Taipei in April 2025. The entire process spanned over two years and was completed in March 2026.
The MV’s visual design and creative direction were led by the internationally acclaimed Weta Workshop, known for its work on over 180 films including Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes, and Dune, earning five Academy Awards.
With no expense spared in both filming and post-production, the MV aims to deliver a groundbreaking visual experience, marking it as one of the most ambitious projects in Mandopop history.
