(Taipei, March 28) Controversial Taiwanese influencer Chen Neng-chuan, known online as “Goodnight Chicken,” has revealed personal struggles following his release from prison earlier this year.

Chen was sentenced to two years in prison in Cambodia in 2024 after staging a fake kidnapping incident. He completed his sentence on February 15 but remained at a local immigration facility for over a month. With assistance from family and Taiwanese authorities, he eventually returned to Taiwan on March 19.

On March 26, Chen hosted a livestream to update followers on his situation. During the broadcast, he showed his identification card, confirming that his marital status had changed to single. He shared that immediately after leaving the prosecutor’s office, he and his wife finalized their divorce at a household registration office.

He openly admitted that being married to him was extremely stressful, stating that his former partner had to seek psychological help due to the pressure. “Only by leaving me can she truly be happy,” he said.

Chen explained that the turning point came while he was imprisoned, when reporters frequently gathered outside his residence. His ex-wife reportedly had to move three times within two years to avoid constant media attention, leaving her emotionally overwhelmed and close to a breakdown.

He also cited the nature of his “adventure” content—often criticized as unlawful—along with financial strain and online doxxing, as major factors contributing to the breakdown of the marriage.

Now a single father, Chen expressed doubts about future relationships, saying few would be willing to accept the pressures that come with being associated with him. He added that any future partner would need to possess “extraordinary resilience,” given the likelihood of public scrutiny.

During the livestream, he became emotional and broke down in tears, describing his current situation as the lowest point in his life. “After getting out of prison, I was scammed out of a lot of money. I feel like I’ve lost everything,” he said.
