Veteran Hong Kong actor Liu Wai-hung, widely known as “Ah Chan,” has successfully transitioned into business after stepping away from the entertainment industry. Now 68, he has relocated to Malaysia, where his food ventures continue to expand.

In a recent YouTube video, Liu made a striking appearance arriving in a luxury Rolls-Royce, inspecting his newly opened fish ball stall. His confident presence quickly drew attention. When asked whether he purchased the car to celebrate the new opening, he responded firmly, “It’s not what you think,” later clarifying that the vehicle actually belongs to a friend.

Despite that, Liu’s current business scale—including multiple restaurants and his “Chan Shen Long” brand—suggests that owning such a luxury car would not be beyond his means.

Sporting a full head of greying facial hair, Liu appears energetic and approachable. He was seen interacting with customers and taking photos at his new outlet, which has quickly gained popularity for its spacious setup, quality food, and reasonable prices.

Reflecting on life, Liu shared, “This is what life is about—you can go anywhere and enjoy anything. I can eat at street stalls or dine at fine restaurants. That freedom is the true joy of life.”

His journey, however, has been far from smooth. He rose to fame through the TVB drama The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Net People), but in the 1990s, he faced financial hardship after acting as a guarantor for a friend who defaulted on repayments. He later ventured into organic farming in mainland China, only to suffer major losses due to natural disasters.

In recent years, Liu rebuilt his career in Malaysia’s F&B industry, achieving a remarkable comeback.

He has also faced health challenges, including gout and a stroke. Through rehabilitation, including physiotherapy and electrotherapy, he has largely recovered and now maintains good physical and mental condition.
